As a parent to a 5 and 3 year old, thank you for this post :) Gives me some hope. I really liked this line "It might make all the difference, even if you never know that it did."
I bet you are a great dad. Thanks for helping me feel more connected with another who is going through the wild ride of parenting. I have 15 and 6 year old daughters, and I am often terrified by the world they are growing up in. I am also caused to reflect often at the miracle that I made it through so many close calls. I mean I regularly drove to crack houses in ghetto to buy dime bags of weed throughout high school. How am I not dead?!?! Then I fall back of kindred spirits like you, friends and faith in a higher power, because it’s all a bit overwhelming most of the time. Beautiful read, thank you for writing this
Thank you for the lovely comment, Christoph. As a dad to 2 boys, I sometimes wonder about the unique struggles of raising girls and how the approach needed would be different. Teenage boys - well, I used to be one of those so it's a little easier to anticipate their needs. I don't think it changes the need for the faith you describe so ensure you keep putting in the effort.
Deep analysis of the time and influence we have as parents. Amazing! The part you wrote that struck me was how one wrong move undoes an entire lifetime of doing the right thing. It’s absolutely frightening. Trying to quantify and optimize the time we have with our kids is also fraught. Lots to ponder and consider! Thanks for writing!
It’s a great point, however, I would argue that these factors are causing the mental health crisis with children. Therefore, it should be on us as adults to move childhood back towards how we grew up and educate the harms of the virtual revolution.
I love this. It’s obvious to me that you’re an incredible parent to be able to maintain this level of awareness on parenting. It sounds like a huge sacrifice, but also the opportunity of a lifetime. 🤗
I must now watch Euphoria!!

There's always reason for hope! I'm sure you're doing a great job!

Thanks for reading! One right move could also save an entire lifetime - we just might never know which one it was, or realize that it's happened!

Thanks, Jen! I wouldn't give myself 'incredible', I certainly try my best and take it very seriously. <3
